I recently started a personal blog, Garden Pleasures using WordPress. I use the blogger.com platform with my business blog. I was a bit surprised that it wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be.

I am looking for feedback from the blogging community about usage and user habits. For example: if you use WordPress do you tweak pre-existing templates or totally re-write css and html to incorporate your own designs?

Any information you are able to provide concerning your experiences with any blogging platform would be helpful, but I am especially interested in WordPress and Blogger.com.

Thanks...

Q...

Personaly I dislike the major blogging platforms. I have been using serendipity for a while now with my blog and love it. The little things got me hooked, like subscribing to comments and all the various plugins it comes with, as well as how easy it is to write a plugin for it.

i actually wondered what you used at cptnwinky.com. it seems pretty nice. i use moveable type which i find to be somewhat easy. i would say the problem with it was i had to read the direction. i hate reading direction and at first really had no idea what i was doing. in the end im pretty darn happy with mt and they also offer quite a selection of plugins. dave im curious if you get a lot of spam comments on your website, and if so how does serendipity deal with them. i see my comments get posted right away, but i dont think ive come across a spam comment.

anyway back to the question at hand. i can't speak for either of the type you mentioned cause i havent tried them. well i shouldn't really say that cause i do have a blogger account. i just don't use it cause i have my own server and domain name. the one thing that bugs me about blogger sites tho is the comment system. they make you sign up for an account or else you have to post annonymously. i hate doing that, but i guess its to prevent spam.

Haven't had a problem with spam yet, although saying that here I'm probably going to have to watch out now. Serendipity handles comments on a first global setting, then a per topic setting. So if I think a specific topic is going to need comment approval first then I can set it when I create the story.

I use Wordpress with no problams and I like it!

Unfortunatly the spammers have found my blog so I've turned on Comment Moderation.

Its just sad that is a fact that will come to pass for almost every blogger.
