Ok first up on my long web journery is to get my own domain. Look here freewebs can do it for only 13.00 for 10 years??? IS that great or is it not?
https://www.securepaynet.net/gdshop/...bz&pl%5Fid=382
Should I go with freewebs and register for there 10 year plan for 13.00? Is it safe? Or should I go with netfirms for 4.95 a year? Or what should I do?

no offense bro but that isn't helpful information. first off that is a webhosting site not a domain name registration site. secondly just saying go look at some other site is not helpful in the slightest when there is very little regarding the subject he is interested in. The only thing I found there was 9.99 domain name registration. Anyway, on to some helpful advice.

I've used neither of the services you asked about. I'm one of those people who usually says you get what you pay for, but I'm starting to think with domain registration that's really not quite the case. I have used both verio and godaddy to register domain names. both we easy to use and godaddy was only half the price. verio continues to renew my domain name for some reason at the higher price which really aggrivates me. i find the service to be exactly the same. After all it is just a domain name. I'm always nervous about the cheaper domain registration places because I often wonder if they will later rip you off on the price of the domain name. Personally I'd recommend using godaddy. I think it's like 8 bucks to register a name. If you can't spend eight bucks on a name you probably shouldn't waste your time with a site.

For my domain registration I use www.nameroute.com and for my hosting , www.hostroute.com. They are related companies and are probably more expensive than many firms , but their service is exceptional and the entire process easy to go through.

I would say it's an excellent price, but one pitfall to watch for is who actually owns the name? Don't assume that because you are giving them money that they are selling you the domain name. I have known services in the past who offer to purchase the domain name on your behalf, however they retain ownership of the domain and will only point it to their servers. If you go with another host, you lose the name. If you don't have control over your IP, you are probably getting ripped.

I'm not saying that is the case here, but it is something worth reading the fine print for. I usually use directnic.com ($15), but now I have to look into GoDaddy.com (thanks Monkey!).

If you are unsure of your host at this point (might change as needs change if you are new to this) another service to look into is one such as ZoneEdit.com It normally takes a few days for your new IP to propagate between all the DNS servers until anyone entering your url goes to your server. Pointing your domain name to the ZoneEdit service once means that you can change your server IP within seconds if you ever need to change it. Maybe you feel you need it, maybe not. It is an option to consider and their prices shouldn't be an issue (VERY low).

i actually had a friend who lost his domain name for that exact same reason. there's always a catch when someone is offering something for much cheaper than everyone else. and you're welcome about the godaddy suggestion good prices and easy to use.

I see I would have to pay 87.00 but I can pay the same price for one year all the way up to 10. Ok I see now. One more question before I buy it. Im going for 2 years. How will I be able to redirect that new domain to my free site? So when they type in my free site link it tells them update bookmarks new dowmain? Do I just point it to a site and it works? Will godaddy tell me how to do it? Can I change it to point to any site anytime?

Whats Domain Locking?

Thanks

you will need the DNS information for the server that your files reside on. then you will tell godaddy that dns information. you can always change it after you buy the domain name also.

dns stands for domain name server. send them an email telling them you are registering a domain name and you would like the dns information from them for your site. sometimes free hosting sites may not allow you the luxury of using your own domain name. so i would definitely shoot them an email or however you contact them and find out that info.
