You guys know how the search engines will punish you if you try and hide key words in your pages by making text the same color as the background and stuff like that. I think I have thought of a way to get around that. Ok heres how it works. First you make a small image that is just a blank image the same color as your background of your site. Then you make like a small table or something and make its background that image and in that table you put all the keywords you want the same color as the image, therefore search engines see it but your visitors dont. You could also do the same thing but just make the image the background of ur site. This way the search engine cant detect what color the image is, so it would have now reason to penalize you.

Was that a little slip? It would NOW have reason to penalize you....

I have to agree with Fonz, it might work but I wouldn't risk it.

mo...i'd say theres no reason why it wouldn't work. its still a risk though.

you could always cut down the risks further by making the image the background of the site, and setting the background colour to a colour totally differnet from the invisible text.

that way, the search engine, even if it didn't pick up the image, would presume the background to be a different colour to the text that you were using. just a little extra security...

i'm still not sure as to whether or not it would work, theres always problems with tricking search engines. why not stick to the plain old CSS trick?

good luck with your optimisation

it is very foolish to think like this. All se have reps who frequently drop by forums etc and one could drop by and read this very thread

It is better to spend your time increasing the content of your site

Hi fonz,

Well, if they don't register on our forums, then there's no way they'll ever find out.

But I do agree. I think we should all spend time working on how we can improve the content of the site to gain popularity rather than try to trick the search engines. It's just too risky. Better safe than sorry.

BTW, DaveTodd, the CSS trick is incredibly risky. Many search engines are requesting the CSS files anyway, even if you stick a robots.txt file to stop them from doing so.

You are right that they would not find out unless they register. But how do you know if they are not already registered? I still do not think it is a good idea to trick the SE.
Only my opinion.

i just have to reiterate the fact that this sort of thing is a waste of time and resources which could be better put into your site

if you build a great site people will want to link to you
