Search Engine Optimized Content Management System

I’d like to get input on selecting a Content Management System on which to build a website which demands SEO friendliness.

I am going to do a major overhaul of a currently active site, and if it means transferring the content over to a new CMS, then I will.

This is basically an article driven niche informational website. (If it will help, I’ll pass along the URL)

I’m on OS commerce right now, but I’m pretty sure there’s something much better. Without a doubt, maximization of SEO techniques will be my number 1 criteria for selecting a CMS.

I need a CMS that allows complete control of URL's, title tags, meta tags, and keyword tags.

Any suggestions?

OS commerce? What's the link to your website?

I think Joomla is a great CMS and unfortunately for me, I'm losing a couple of battles against websites with Joomla since they seem to have very good rankings so I would say fundamentally, Joomla has great prospects for those who want a safe and comprehensive CMS with good results in optimisation.

use mod_rewrite to rewrite your URL's.
find a dynamic meta tag generator PHP script and put that in your header files (if you want complete control - meaning you select the tags - then create a box in posting area for tags & DB, then you can call for the tags from DB in header).

Hosting24, the site does not sell anything, but rather is a collection of articles on a niche topic, so the ecommerce capability is not needed.

JSTYLISH, the site is http://mineralweb.com/ I'm debating right now between Wordpress and Joomla. Seems like the consensus from other forms is that they are both equally powerful in terms of SEO, it just depends on which one you are most comfortable working with.

rednimaT: That seems a bit complicated. I'm looking for a CMS with those functions already built into it or easily added via a plug in.

Thanks so much for all the help.

Judging from the minutes spent on your website - I would recommend WordPress to suit your needs. It will handle exactly what your site offers straight out of the box. You'll be overdoing it with Joomla - Joomla is great but unnecessary for your project unless you plan to start a community and introduce various functions down the line. I guess this all depends on your long term goal. If it is just to look more presentable and have the code modernise and optimised then WordPress would be a nice fit.

Jstylish,

It is OSCommerce. We just redid the template file for it to make it look better.

I've been hearing some good things about Wordpress, and our site is very simple. It's a collection of educational articles.

I'm already comfortable in editing in Wordpress, so the switch to Joomla or Droopal would cause more headache.

Joomla is great, but the learning curve and mass of functions seem more than you need. Wordpress is free and has all the SEO plugins you need.

WordPress is my suggested choice... it is free...has a very active community of supports and plugin developers.

It is great for seo...tons of search engine optimization plugins available for free. It also make it easy to add new content and comes with a blog.

I'd stay away from Joomla because the learning curve is so steep.
