I am currently uploading my new website to my host server, replacing the old website that was up before, but for some reason it will not let me delete or replace the old index.htm file and replace it with my new one (mine is index.html but I have tried calling it .htm). There are now 2 files in my www folder called index.htm, the new one and the old one but the old one is the one which is live.

It keeps asking me for my login which I enter correctly but it does not give anyindication that it has even sent the infomation and just keeps popping up every time I click login. I have had this problem with the login in the past but not when changing items only when gaining access to the site.

I have also found that one folder that I just added seems to have write protected iteslf and I cannot delete/replace or add to it at all. This happened when I tried to cancel the upload as there werte several large files in it and I wanted to upload them to the folder seperately. The item in the folder was an .exe item in it if this means anything. If I try to copy a folder in of the same name it adds the new folder (not as a copy but with the exact same name) and then write protects itself also) I now have 2 folders called software that will not let me change them.

Any help would be appreciated as this is my first time actually uploading a site I have made.

EDIT: OHH jeez now the login issue is back and I cannot remember how I fixed it last time... Error message is Cannot log into FTP server with password and login supplied
*cries* I know I am using the correct combination

OMG!!! I hate this thing... suddenly decideds to work but I did nothing different... *cries*

But I am still having issues with folders doubling up, the error message is when I try to delete the 2 identical folders:

An error occured deleting the file or folder on the ftp server. Make sure you have permission to access this folder.

Details:
550 prohibited file name: .pureftpd-upload.4a9b2bd5.15.3794.d4f436ec

It is weird though, I thought I would try uploading the same folder again and as I upload the new folder items appear in both the duplicates (I now have 3 folders in the directory with the same name)

If you have a permissions problem, it would be easier to contact your hosting support and they will fix it quickly . It would be a separate case if you are managing your own server .
