I am totally a newb to this building thing. but even though I get frustrated and have almost given up a few times, I am still keeping at it....with my html, xhtml & CSS book by my side My contact me is going to end up being a contact form, still figuring that one out though...

I am going to add more content to the site, but how does it initially look? I wanted a clean look, which was easy to navigate.

It seems to look exactly how I want it to in firefox, but something is making it wonky in IE, so I assume I have done something wrong...any idea what?

Thanks for the input.

The first thing you need to do is validate your code, you've got some errors in there that will make all kinds of things go wonky.

Yeah, validate and you should find the solution. Your H tags aren't closed which is causing it to control aimlessly at all elements.

Also, rename your pages to about.html / portfolio.html - even if it is a work in progress you should adopt a good practice immediately so it becomes habit.

Other than that, I have to say you've definitely started off well.

I think the suggestions given are absolutely right, there is a necessity to validate the codes written by you that will help you to refine the pages.I believe there is no control established on the elements and the links, and keep working as that will make you more perfect at it and will give you best of the results. Thanks

When I first tried to validate, It wouldn't work because of the encoding, eventually i figured out what that meant, so I managed to go from 38 errors down to 5 (just on the front page, definalty going to make the other changes too! Thanks for the input!

I like the colours and clean look of the site.
And now what I don't like-- why so much empty space beneath each text? You have to scroll down all the way to see... copyright footer. And I think menu on the "home" page should be the same size as on the every other. Apart for that, good work!

I would recommend showing samples of your best photos on your home page to help people better understand what the site is about and draw them in better.

You're off to a great start! You might want to look into making the text and background colors a little more contrasting. Right now the text is legible, but it doesn't stand out in any way. This website helps me out quite a bit with this issue. I agree with junosama, if you are going to have a portfolio site, you should have some of your work showcased right on the front page.

Thank you for the on going help with my site, I am changing things all the time to make it better, I will work on making the home page more appealing and I was thinking the colors were not really working, that site is a good checker!

Thanks again, time for some more work on it now

Speaking from strictly a visual design point of view, I really think you need a splash of color in there. The black text on the green background is very dull and moody. I don't think you need to add a lot of color. Just subtle hits here and there should do the trick. Play with link colors, section colors, etc.

But the biggest problem for me is the black text on green. Very dull.

I understand where you are coming from with the monochrome look though. I'm currently going through a "gray" phase right now where everything I do is gray with bits of color - but sometimes none at all. I think if it's contrasty enough, it's ok. So...you are on the right track!
