Hi everyone - I'm hoping to get seom help on what software to use to build my site. I'm designing a website that will list contests and giveaways happening on different blogs. I currently have a blog that I use for this - but I personally need to add every contest as a blog post and it has gotten very time consuming. I would like a site where people (both registered and non-registered users) can add their own contest listing and it will show up right away (or after I authorize it). I would like each listing to have its own permalink. Also, it is very important that the listings can be sorted by the end date of the contest (currently I use tags to do this but would like to use a date field).
There are so many options out there I'm getting more and more confused on what would be best for me. I have a basic understanding of html and am sort of familiar with css - I was thinking I would learn php and mysql (I am a database coordinator by profession so the mysql would be a snap) and create my own forms and design my own queries to pull the info from the database but that started to look scary.
That's when I thought I'd rather modify a template instead - so I thought maybe I can adapt wordpress to do what I want, but wasn't really sure. Then I tried out Joomla with SOBI2 addon which seems like a good way to go but I'm just not getting the hang of Joomla very quickly.
The website also needs to have room for sponsor images, and featured (paid) listings and I need an rss feed for all the listings.
Really just hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
