I like to use Dreamweaver, but, if I'm doing something simple then I always use Notepad.

I've probably used FrontPage more than anything. I've used NotePad and CuteHTML (Cute "stuff" is pretty good) It seems like DreamWeaver has more to offer, probably the best in my humble opinion.

I first started learning HTML with Frontpage Express. it would never let me use the HTML option so I had to type it out instead of copying it, so I had to get the full version...so I did and well worth the money for basic HTML things, I don't care what anyone says Frontpage is great for beginers
Dreamweaver is perfect for those complex rollovers I like to put into sites..

I agree, FrontPage is best for people who are just starting to learn HTML, but Dreamweaver is a much more powerful HTML editor, IMO.

I don't edit HTML, at least not in the true sense of the word...
Being a coder my program of choice has to be TextPad ( http://www.textpad.com ), it is so flexible and configurable it is great for what I do. One of the best features is that you can add (even create) your own syntax files, which makes coding by hand much, much easier.
I did start out with FrontPage 98, but once I learned how much junk it added to the pages I've never really trusted a WYSIWYG since. I know its rather unfair of me to make such a sweeping assumption, but when I installed a trial version of Dreamweaver on my comp, I only opened it the once. I thought I could knock up a quick form, but having to fiddle about with textboxes and other options, I quickly came to the conclusion that I could hand code what I wanted much quicker anyway!
Anyway, in reflection to the poll - I noticed that there were no text editors in the choices... having seen the results of a poll similar to this on another board, I know there are quite a lot that like to hand edit all their own code. I know, because I'm one of them!

I wonder if there needs to be "Text Editor" added to the poll? Or maybe there needs to be a thread dedicated to text editors.....
Anyone used NoteTab or NoteTab Pro?
That brings up another question for me. What actually separates what is called a text editor from an html editor? Is it the drag-n-drop WYSIWYG functionality?
I'm kinda' thinking and typing. A webmaster friend of mine always gouges me when I tell him I used FrontPage and he tells me to get back to NoteTab or TextPad. I admire those people that are straight coders. That might even be a good discussion on here, advantages and disadvantages of html and text editors.

Don't get me started! Seriously, you'll be opening a whole can of worms if you want the advantages and disadvantages of various editors... there is no end to the argument it seems.
For me, if it has a drag and drop interface then it's a WYSIWYG, everything else is a text editor. There are all HTML editors in the sense that are capable of editing HTML.
During past descussions I have come to the following conclusion.
Coders use Text editors, designers use WYSIWYG; both types will resort to the "other style" when necessary (for speed or control, depending on who you are).
Coders are usually people with a history of other programming languages. They feel more comfortable being in full control of the page and knowing exactly where to go to fix problems. Designers are people who like to play around with different ideas before deciding that something is not quite right and they change it. It doesn't matter to them what the code under the page does, as long as it looks how they want it to and it does what they expect.
I know these may be general sweeping statements that probably don't apply ridgedly to everyone - but I think everyone that builds pages should fall into one or the other so I feel they are fair assumptions to make.
I consider myself a coder. There is nothing more thrilling that putting a site online that has been built from the ground up by hand coding, particularly if you've developed your own scripts that power it... end of!

Hmmm, might be general sweeping statements, but I think there is some truth to that. Good post!
I fit in there, coming from a graphic arts background (more years ago than I care to relate), I have the tendency to use WYSIWYG programs and jump to the html tags to make sure things are correct.

Great point/thought/idea/whatever it was...!
I think your right in most instances.
While I don't consider myself an expert at either, I would consider myself a designer way before a coder, and I prefer to use a WYSIWYG and then view the HTML and add "stuff" (that was for your DM0224) where needed.
I am learning ASP and have some Visual Basics experience (don't laugh at me coders!)....

I used Dreamwaever for my site but most of the times I code HTML in a simple texteditor. You get alot of weird codes with Dreamwaever !

It looks like text editors are still being used. The html editors haven't taken over, lol.
Hi ForKmaN, you gonna post your site in the Site Review? You can get IMO's of other webmasters.
