I started off with notepad in my early days, moved on to Frontpage, tried to adjust to Dreamweaver.. didn't like it too much but I'll eventually have no choice but to master it eventually. In the mean time, I absolutely love CoffeCup HTML Editor 2008. Its doing everything I need it to, and thats all I can ask for.

Notepad.

Simple, and its not always trying to "help you out" which just gets in your way and stops your flow.

Once i get going, i can just type and type and type...unless im using some stupid editor that keeps "suggesting" things for me...
Grrr...they annoy me.

EDIT: guy above me, you said CoffeCup HTML editor, i think thats the one i learnt using. Was very helpful when I knew nothing (obviously it wasn't the 2008 version as this was a couple of years ago) but after a while I just prefered to use notepad.
In year 8 school forced you to use FrontPage...I COULDN'T STAND IT!! UGH, THE HORROR!!
Then in year 11 we were forced to use DreamWeaver...and ya know, it was alright, didnt seem to bother me too much but still at the end of the day i prefered to go back to my good old notepad.

I dont use dreamweaver or frontpage because I cant afford it.

And even if I could I prob wouldnt like it.

Front page and dreamweaver are both over like 400 dollars right?

During past descussions I have come to the following conclusion.

Coders use Text editors, designers use WYSIWYG; both types will resort to the "other style" when necessary (for speed or control, depending on who you are).

Coders are usually people with a history of other programming languages. They feel more comfortable being in full control of the page and knowing exactly where to go to fix problems. Designers are people who like to play around with different ideas before deciding that something is not quite right and they change it. It doesn't matter to them what the code under the page does, as long as it looks how they want it to and it does what they expect.

I know these may be general sweeping statements that probably don't apply ridgedly to everyone - but I think everyone that builds pages should fall into one or the other so I feel they are fair assumptions to make.

I consider myself a coder. There is nothing more thrilling that putting a site online that has been built from the ground up by hand coding, particularly if you've developed your own scripts that power it... end of!
Right on Tiggy! Woohoo! Excellent choice of words!

Notepad++ for me. It's very useful. It does not only can edit html but also many other programming languages. What I mean with 'edit' is that the notepad++ can highlighted our codes. Go google and download it. The code seems very beautiful on there, and I love most of its indentation. Nice one. LoL.

Most of the time you can catch me using Dreamweaver. I just love it. It has way more options then most other editors out there, plus I'm still learning so all them options come useful

I'll use notepad from time to time if it's something simple.

whichever text editor executes the cleanest and responds fastest to my operations and time/efficiency drivers. Usually a wysiwyg live inside the hosting.
