Hey guys,

I am making a personal web page where I will have some personal stuff, but I will also be putting lots of engineering, math, and web tutorials.

This might sound like a stupid question but I am wondering what the best way to structure the menu would be. I am using a drop down menu.Right now I have main categories on top. Like web, software, engineering, and then from the dropdown I am wondering about the order I should put the things in.

So what do you guys think is better

Software > Matlab > Matlab tutorials
or
Software > Tutorials > Matlab, LT Spice, etc

Thanks
-Adam

The general rule of thumb is to put them in order of popularity. If you bury frequently used links away it makes the site that bit more laborious to use.

You can't go wrong with alphabetical order.

I think Software > Matlab > Matlab tutorials is best. Because First you have to introduce your Software and then its tutorials will come and it'll be easy for users to find out their requirements.

I would suggest that you put what you believe is most relevant, gets updated the most, and is popular at the highest points on your menus. everyone has personal preference, but i believe most people when they check the drop downs will consider the ones which are considered "popular" topics.

So Tutorials, Matlab, LT Spice are all under the navigation "Tutorial"?

If that is so, I would suggest that you put on top the most prioritize content you would like to present to your visitors.

For me, I select the second one as it's not redundant-looking navigation.
