I'm re-designing a site right now .. switching from frames to server-side includes. If my file names now have the SHTML extension, rather than HTML .. will it negatively affect my search engine rating (for a site that's been up for 10 years)?

Add the following to your .htaccess file and you can use your includes without renaming the file extensions:

Options Includes
AddType text/html .html
AddHandler server-parsed .html
