I would start designing your own sites as soon as you can. The more sites you have out there that you can show off as your own web portfolio the better. If you show somebody something they like, they will most likely forget about the 2 years experience!

You could learn online. There are lots beatuiful website templates you can view. And you need a web design software. I usually use Visio Software. There are lots of web design softwares online.

That is basically where I learned almost everything I know about website designing. You can also practice designing your own websites with a Yahoo Geocities account which gives you free hosting.

Start practicing and soon you will be able to design good looking sites.
Correct,

you should try this site to learn how to go with designing. Keep practicing, beside this you can join any local company with the low salary (for experience). You can put your resume on criglist, there are many ways to go, just hand on.

Yes, keep practicing. And while you're at it, you can start organizing portfolios of your webpage designs. some companies will consider hiring you if you have a decent portfolio where they can base your skills.

You should make websites of your own. Experiment with things. Make improvements. Soon you get better at it.

Well Edikan victor if you look around you can find free webspace with all the bells and whistles PHP , MySQL and the works Now I wouldn't try to run Yahoo on a free host but for someone just starting out that's the ticket and most can grow with you

Practice makes perfect.
Work on your own projects, practice more. And make a portfolio, it'll show an employer how good you are.

I'm learning web design by trial and error over a 12 year period (that's still ongoing!). I've never worked for an agency but I started by doing a site for my band, then doing on for myself and other bands, then a place I went on holiday once. Went to uni to study Multimedia (not a lot of web stuff though, really) and got a job as the sole web designer for a local wholesaler. I've since moved on to another place as the sole designer. The money's not spectacular but I have so much freedom over what I do and I'm not just constantly churning out same old site after same old site. I'm able to set up new projects and put forward new technical ideas that will help the company.

Overall though to improve skills, it's practice, playing and getting it wrong occasionally that's done it for me.

Whether you have experience or not, a strong portfolio of websites and designs and a passion for the subject will open many doors.

Do sites for friends and/or family, for a nominal fee, so you can tell a prospective employer that you have been freelancing for 2 years, or if you think you can pull it off, say you've been running your own webdesign company.

make sure you develop a portfolio, employers love that.
