Which is better for a Web Designer.

And which do you prefer?

In average designing day for me I use notepad photoshop and mozzila firefox.

So obviously either computer would do the same thing. I guess its about personal taste.

And I'd make sure to keep a pc so I can test my sites in

IE, chrome, opera, navigator, etc.

At the end of the day, there is NOTHING you can't accomplish on either machine. Sure, the process might be a bit different but the end result is exactly the same.

I use both PC and Mac and love them both. I know I'm going against the grain here but I actually find my PC easier for general use. It's easier to navigate between my open programs and just get the job done. However, my Mac is easier to keep clean of unwanted files and I feel a little safer using it.

Don't forget about the price points too. A Mac will definitely set you back more than a PC. My advice, if you're new to this I'd go with a PC.

Using a PC or Mac has absolutely positively nothing to do with the ability to design websites.

As creydesign said. I've got 2 "monsters" from both sides. It's just a matter of personal taste.

I've been using a MacBook Pro exclusively for about a year now and I'm really happy with it. The LED screen is beautiful (you dont really have to tweak it at all to display colors accurate. Important when working with print etc.), Photoshop CS4 runs like a dream and I find it much easier to manage my applications without cluttering up the system as I tend to do on windows.

The multi-touch trackpad has many neat gestures like pinching to zoom etc. which is pretty nice for working with images and such.

I've also fallen in love with "spaces" which allow you to set up several different workspaces. I can't live without those anymore.

There's just so many small things and details that has improved my workflow and made my life a little bit better :P

You can of course do most of this with windows.
And you can get 64bit photoshop for windows (not available for mac yet)
(Windows 7 has many of (if not most of) the OS X features)

As for testing your websites in different browsers, you can use a virtual machine. I run an XP system through vmware fusion just for that, and it has worked out fine for me.

Macs are expensive yes, but if you want to buy a comparable PC, the price difference wont be that bad. (The LED displays alone are worth a lot).

But in the end it's a matter of taste.

There's not really much difference in my opinion. I personally prefer Windows, because that's what I've always worked with...but if you gave me a Mac and told me I could only work with that laptop and that alone, I wouldn't really be upset.

I actually think i like pc's more right now.
I just dont like how pc's always get slow and there are bugs and stuff.
And macs are just so new and cool.
I just dont know if i could turn from my old friend notepad.
Also i like the new mac they made.
Cause it has some black and its cool.
But if i get a mac I cant 13 inches. too small.
But the mac pros start at 2000 wich is all my money.
What about an imac?

Personally, I don't like MAC, but in fact, I have seen many web designers using MAC and they liked it a lot.

I honestly find the mac easier to use, but PC has a wider range of the programs I really like. It's a 50/50 kind of thing.

I have a macbook pro, its just awesome... never crashes, software runs really quickly and is really simple and intuitive to use. WAYYY better than a pc.

If you can get over the "oh no, this is unknown territory" thing, you wont ever regret switching to apple.

I prefer PC because lot of more comfortable in PC. It is very faster to use and certain things about using the interface more manual and free than a Mac.
