I am planning to build a website in which people upload photos, which document the progress of a project. This photo is then automatically displayed on the main page in a collage as a link. Other users can click on this link in order to go into a 'personal' collage of those photos, somewhat like an album. From there on, users can rate and comment on the photos. This is just the barebones of what I have in mind.


I do not have much experience with coding, but I still want to make this by myself. At the same time, I want to have somewhat of an idea of the magnitude of this project is.

I would start out on a small VPS nothing less then 512 of RAM and 10 GB space. You could always upgrade your VPS when you need to later on. I would select the VPS this way you have shell access. But, you will need a script for your desired website.
