Hey guys need your opinion on something...

My current programmer is again away for a few weeks so obviously i cant ask him so im hoping you can help me out with this...

I want to change the site from its current state of HTML to either Joomla or WordPress... Which one would be better for me to change to?

I want to be able to upload images and update content without having to contact my programmer to do this so is Joomla the right platform??

Its for www.SwiftProductions.com.au

Thanks guys

It's a quiet weekend and this isn't really a HTML question, because whatever you use that site will still be in HTML. Only the "backend" will change from static pages to a CMS.

So really, what you use will make absolutely no difference whatsoever to the page coding. It will be down to you deciding which of the two you find easiest to handle and customise.

I keep going back to wordpress from joomla myself. i like the simplicity of WP and find joomla kinda bulky for my needs. Joomla has a bit steeper learning curve but can do a lot more. that being said, most of my websites are blogs or small content websites. try both and see which you prefer.

Depends on what you want to use it for. I would personally say Joomla because it's without limits.

DRUPAL DRUPAL DRUPAL. Look into Drupal first before you jump into Joomla or Wordpress. Seriously. You will like it much more.

It is pretty easy to make a wordpress site that doesn't look like a blog. It would just require some tweaking of whatever template you decide to use.

I've seen many sites that were actually Wordpress but you wouldn't know it until you dug a little deeper. The main reason most Wordpress sites look like blogs is because that is what the platform is mostly used for.

Joomla is pretty nice. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the three between Joomla, Drupal or Wordpress... just try them all and see which one you like best.

I love the wordpress platform and as mentioned by others you can tweek the templates and make it look like anything. check out this example at www.mmachump.com - that site is rocking and is a site, forum, blog, etc. Other then the forum all the rest is built on wordpress platform.

I just started with Joomla last week. I love it. Definitely go with the 1.5. Learning curve?---yea, but it's fairly intuitive.

It depends on what you need. Joomla is probably the more powerful option, and looks like the better of the two for what you are doing (its not really a blog right?) Wordpress can do whatever you want really if you are good at it but Joomla is less dependent on a blog format. I use wordpress, but that is because the site I run is more of a sports news/advice site where as yours seems to be about a service you offer. 2 examples of the power of each:

Wordpress: http://www.wpelements.com/demos/massivenews/

Joomla: http://www.ihop.com/

Also this Joomla seems more of what you need: http://www.sensointeriors.co.za/

check out my link in the footer. Most of the content management sites I do are in Drupal. Including the link below.

I've been a joomla user for 3+ years now, still running the v1.0.13... Very happy with it as a management solution & highly customizable. Joomla has one of the Largest active Dev support teams in the open source's CMS industry & has by FAR the MOST Mods / templates / components than any other CMS on the market.

Just keep in mind that no matter what cms you choose to go with, you need to manually add all your content into the cms & recode your site layout / template to be compatible with the cms.

if you don't want the headache of manually redoing everything, you can always look into a browser management solution like this: www.interspire.com/webedit/ WebEdit works with your existing site folders. It's not free though, just a solution I figured I would mention.

Joomla is an overkill for most simple CMS needs. I would recommend wordpress unless you need all the bells and whistles. Joomla is heavier, has a steep learning curve and is a hackers favourite.

where did you hear joomla was a hackers favorite? From all the reviews I've read on various cms's, they all are targeted by hackers.

No matter what weaknesses a cms has, the higher profile targets with greater market share will naturally attract attention from both hackers and white hat security experts.

More weakness doesn't = more hackers coming after you. More prominent money making sites like ecommerces = larger numbers of hackers. They go after what is profitable.

Wordpress can be easily used as a CMS, but like others here said before: it depends on what you want to with this site. If you're heading for a large site with maybe a shop in the future go with joomla or drupal.
