Hi folks,

I was wondering what you suggestion(s) are for going to school for web design. Would you reccomend something like Devry? I like in Milwaukee, WI and currently go to a tech school - but they don't offer a web design curriculum.

I wanted to do Devry because of the online courses. Whats your take?

Just be aware, that wherever you study, you will still need to spend a considerable amount of time self-educating in order to stay on the cutting edge. Most of the computer-science and other students I have spoken to that come to this field, say that their standard education alone was inadequate to fully prepare them for this ever-changing field.

That's good advice - and I completely understand what you mean. I taught myself HTML back in 6th grade, and am still designing sites 7 years later. They aren't that GOOD mind you - but they are getting there.

I went to a local community college. They gave me a degree and such but I feel I learned more being self-educated and by getting internships. With internships you can learn a great deal in a short amount of time and that's personal experience you cant get in a class room. Good luck.

Ive found that everything that i learned to a proficient level was self taught for the most part. Schools are good, dont get me wrong, they give you a core learning experience along with a source of credibility. However when you learn something on your own, your more likely to invest your time learning only what you need to know, and learning it in more depth.

If you have the time and the money, goto school but expect to spend alot of time on your own educating yourself and reveiwing things.

Personally im starting with a book on using dreamweaver, and after i get throught that ill probably pick up a html book, then after that maybe javascript, and so on. It will take longer and i will not have a degree...but i will learn what i need to know.
