I hope I'm in the right forum for this.

I'm looking for help (instructions) to create some rollover web buttons for a friend's website. I really want the experience of doing this myself so if anyone knows of a tutorial for this or if you can personally give me instructions on creating some web buttons using CS1.

I have created the button and psd file with layers. I just cannot figure out what the correct steps are after I put it into ImageReady. This would be to make it a rollover state.

I've tried using the HELP MENU and I am following the steps but I get to a point on the instructions where I know it isn't right and sure enough - it doesn't work when I test it. (& I cannot find my Photoshop book right now...)

So can anyone help me with this?

Well, do you know html or css? If you know these, I can explain to you how to do it, if not you are out of luck. There may be a way to do it from within photoshop but I do not know it.

If you know css just make the links the size of the image you want to rollover. Then use background-image: on the link and hover states to create the rollover effect.

You can create both the up and down image in photoshop then move over to image ready and create an actual rollover image there with a motion tween attached. There is even a wizard in Dreamweaver to do the rollover image as well.

Not sure what you have in your arsenal so to speak, but there are many options to achieve this.

The best way to create rollovers is with CSS sprites: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/sprites

I used to have some software, some button maker for creating rollover buttons.
I'll see if I can find it.
EDIT- It is by CoffeeCup.

Use this code: (I suppose you're using mouseover for a link)

Code:
<a href="link"

onMouseOver="document.tony.src='picture when mouse is over'"

onMouseOut ="document.tony.src='picture when mouse is off'">

<img name="tony" border="0" src="picture when mouse is off again" width="width"
height="height"></a>
