Hello to all quick question, I have heard of flash banners and such, yet what is the difference with an html banner?

Is it more of I make a banner in Photoshop and safe as html and that would be my code I would insert or how do I do it?

Thanks so much'

Well, a HTML banner is a piece of HTML/JavaScript/Ajax while a Flash banner is made with an multimedia authoring software.

Basically there is no difference in functionality, although the Flash banners are more "platform compatible", especially refering to older webbrowsers or exotic operating systems (e.g. there is an up-to-date Flash player available for most operating system environments, but webbrowsers savvy in complex JavaScript/Ajax are just available for the popular systems - and they still have some issues to solve).

So if you have the choice, go with a Flash banner.

Regarding Photoshop, I don't use this and cannot say much. But I would wonder (and definitively had a look at this software) if it would be able to handle HTML.

"banner" is just a term for a rectangular section that is wider than it is high and located at the top of a page. It comes from publishing where "banner headlines" were/are used to attract attention to a particular news story or article later in the publication.

If you can code a "header" for a page you can code a banner. It's just the same markup up as any other element. It is simply the shape and position of the container that would make it into a "banner"
If you had a short, wide section at the bottom of the page, it would be a "footer" when it's at the top; ... ... It's a "banner". How it is coded or what it is coded in, makes absolutely no difference.
