I have not thought much about having my friends help me with start pages to get hits. Most people that have signed up under me on one of these programs have been people wanting their own hits.

But here's an idea to use those friends that don't have sites and don't need the hits. And the term "use" is meant in a good way! Discuss with your friend(s) before doing this!

Send Friend A your referral url and have him/her sign-up. They will list your site url as the site where they want the hits sent. Friend A starts their browser getting hits for the site they listed, which is your site. For example, say the ratio is 1:1. They open browser, get one hit for your site and you get some percentage of a hit for your site since they are in your downline. So you get more than one hit each time they open their browser.

You could also ask the friend to send out your referral url too. Like any matrix, it has a huge potential to grow.

Anyone done this? Any problems?

PS Not all startpage and browsing programs are created equal. Not all have 1:1 ratio of views to hits.

Hi, please don't get me wrong I don't want to harm you copyrights but at the beginning I try some sort of action simmilar to yours (the only differcne they have thier own websites) with my friend... but you know I already give up and there is several reasons because I've done it: First of all they are to bored to surf for credits (i'm not try with startpages but with EzHits4U (as I tell before it was beggining of my webmaster expirience so it was one of the first webrings I try to use) So it's work but not too long because my friends wasn't too patient too surf all the day all the same sites... and after I realize I don't get quality traffic I'm looking for but the people who watch only one page and disappear in eternity of web... So I decide to give up my trys of building my website traffic on webrings, and forced search engines rankings and webrings are run on thier own and on refferals I've got before and I actually not surf myself anymore only if want to see some other sites or find new resources to my web-site. As for starpages I try some of them and wasn't impressed at all they usually drive even worser traffic than webrings, the only conception of starpage I see more or less reliable is when starpage is only as the way to make credits which could be converted in future in pageviews like on TrafficG or banner impressions...

Phoenix, I don't mind joining your start pages from your referral ID, but please PM them to me privately. No referral links please).

I do have a couple (very few) here and there myself on the forum, but this is only to try and cover the server costs of the forum (which I can tell you is not covered by revenue from this forum so far).

Startpages usually don't work for the fact that:
1. They are usually very untargetted.
2. Most surfers are webmaster just trying to get more hits to their own sites.

But on the other hand, you might as well get some free hits and maybe an occasional lead from them. Why have your startpage MSN or Yahoo, when you can get a couple free hits by opening a startpage program IMO. As well there are tons of startpage programs no days. StartBlaze is still probably the best for leads, but you have to open it up 6 times for one hit...

As for starpgaes and ocassional revenue I agree with you but as long as my site manly engaged in CPS or CPL not the CPM or CPC, I prefer more targeted auditory my main sources is Google of course (one fo my favourite search engines) now I've got ranking 5(of my main page) acoording to GoogleBar, it consume a bit of my time but it was worth it because I alredy got about 7-10 peoples daili from Goolgle. As for Starblaze I actually check it myself too and I should confirm that this site is not so bad and I use it for some time in the past...

I wouldn't suggest to my friends that they surf to get me hits. That might be the way to lose friends.

But they still open their browsers for whatever purpose. Most of the people I talk to, that are not webmasters, leave whatever startpage is the default for their browser. So, if they are not using it for anything, why not get an extra hit or two for your website by getting them to use a specific startpage?

Everyone wants targeted hits too. You never can tell, but one of the "un-targeted" hits might end up being a good lead, customer, partner, etc.

Just some more thoughts on using those startpages for something!

Heh, I made my own start page. It has drop down menus with all my most frequently visited links divided into categories.

Like, for example, I have one just for Forums. The main part of the drop down window says "forums" and then when I open it all the forums I visit regulary, save one, are listed.

That one is CS which has its very own drop down menu since I am admin there.

I also designed the background image for my start page. I should take a screenshot and post it in the graphics forum.

I used to do that, but got out of the habit. Hmmm, might be interesting to get it going again and save all the looking through bookmarks.
