Hey, I'm currently making a website for a major project and i'm wondering what dimensions my website should be, one that pleases all monitors and that fits perfectly in the screen.

I'm thinking 800 x 600

Any suggestions?

Depends on what your target audience is likely to be using.

But generally speaking 1024 wide would be a reasonably safe aim.

If you're worried about those with a lower screen resolution, you could always make a fluid layout.

I go with 1024 wide all the time since a lot of people are using that resolution or near it.

1024×768 is the current web standard for resolutions.

just ensure that its not larger than 1024px and you cant go wrong. My current portfolio site is 800px which doesn't look to bad.

It depends on the layout you want, but I would shoot for 800x600 for those on older systems and mobile devices, but make it flexible enough to still look good at 1024x768.

I usually use percentages instead of dimensions because everyone has a different screen size and they aren't always using their browser in full screen mode. Using percentages will keep everything where its supposed to be.

Good luck!

I shouldn't put words in someone else's mouth, but I'm thinking Lpsider just meant it's the most common resolution in use now and so 1024 is becoming the standard width you design for.

I try to have my sites look their best at for 1024x768, but I also want them to work on higher or lower resolution monitors. The best resolution to design for really depends on what your visitors use most. If you have a low tech topic you might find 800x600 is still pretty common. If your topic is high tech it's quite possible that the majority of your visitors will be using a much higher resolution.

Yeah I agree.

The original statement was rather broad so I was curious if he read something I didn't.
