So I put up a website with a free template.
Well when you click the links at the top most all of the time it takes you back to the homepage but on the 2nd click it takes you to the page you wanted to go to.
What can be causing this?
Check out the website in my signature.
I know its a cheap looking site any pointers on making it look better would be great. Or if you know of a better free template to use then tell me.
I want my site to be user friendly. I have yet though figured out one reason why anyone would want to return to my site.

I thought about adding a blog but I am not sure.
I made a topic here on that and you can reply there:

Thanks

A link to the site with the problem might help one of us help you.

Off the top of my head, I would guess that the links on the sub pages are defective and you have ERRORDOCUMENT set the the index page in the .htaccess file. Once you get there the links are correct and you get to the page.

All the links at the top or the bottom such as "blog" "images" ....are all bad and do this.

Can you provide a link to the site? Is it one of the links in your sig? We're really going to need to see the site in order to help.

Maybe I'm wrong but any link I see there links to your homepage, no actual links to image page etc. If I'm wrong ignore that but when I checked your source out thats what I think I noticed.

Thats just showing you the links and you can see the problem.
If you were to click the link once and it not take you to the page the 2nd time you hover over the link or click on it then it works. In the code its written correctly.

I think the problem is you're not using a menu that goes the same on all pages like with a php include. If you go to the blog or image page all menu items point back to the homepage. this means you'll have to edit the menu links on every page.

Lpspider pretty much nailed it. You probably edited the links once on your homepage (index.html) thinking that it changed for all of the other pages. You will need to go to every page and update the links to match the links that you have on your homepage.

The alternative is if your host has PHP enabled to change the extensions from .html to .php and separate the navigation into another file that you can include in each page. Makes life a whole lot easier when you want to make even a small change.

Seems like you fixed the problem on most pages. It looks like your contact page still has the links pointing back to the home page, though. You might also consider renaming the file for the contact page. Use a dash instead of the space between words and also go with lower case so:

about-me.html
contact-me.html

instead of

About me.html
Contact me.html

That did fix it and I remembered I had not done this and then asked this question anyways. I did not think it through. Sorry for bothering you all ha ha I will use my brain more next time before asking. ha ha
Yes I plan on changing all the pages to lower case and maybe not even spacing them. I plan to merge the contact and about me page so I can free up a page for another idea I might implement.
