Dreamweaver 8 is all i hear these days, which software do you use, in conjunction which others?

Reason i am asking this is i am currently thinking on building a site myself, rather than outsource it .... Probably more stupid than brave!

Anyway i would love to hear your pro's and con's and fav sites visited for inspiration...

Well it all depends on what you know. I use a simple text editor that has color coding for html, css, php and it has line numbers, some other neat features. It is called UltraEdit. This is because I know html and css. If you don't know them, then you are probably better off with something like Dreamweaver.

Designing your own site is quite difficult from many dimensions, (e.g. reliability, performance, security, search engine optimization), so I would recommend if you are just beginning to start with a CMS such as Wordpress and learn some basic HTML and CSS, and SQL design and coding techniques while observing Wordpress's own design.

Hope this helps,
Rich

HTML-Kit and Photoshop are my primary design tools. Many folks are fine with WYSIWYG, but I just work faster and better when I have my hands on the code.

Notepad is the best place to start if you want to learn HTML and CSS.

Dreamweaver is the best place to start if you want to start designing but don't particularly care about the technology.

Bravery rarely comes without a pinch of stupidity!

dreamweaver and photoshop are my arsenal of weapons...but remember simple designs work best as long as they look professional....

if you have big graphics on your site and it takes ages to load you might lose some staying visitors or visitor intrest.

cheers

I think I am really outdated as I still just use the old fashioned and simple notepad that is on most computers. I hand code myself. HTML and PHP and some other coding languages are just like my second languages in life, lol. I'm rather fluent in it now.
