I'm building a football fans site (Real Madrid Fans Website)

can anyone suggest a software (php) to use on the site , it is gonna have a news articles , polls , newsletters ...etc

Try Phpnuke and clones. (postnuke,...)

I'd prefer something like Joomla, tough..

I think what you are looking for is a Content Management System (CMS). This may help you while searching.

I never use them but have heard many good things about Joomla.

joomla is great if you don't mind getting your feet wet. there's a lot of addons for the software that you can find off the internet - such as for polls, articles, reviews, etc.

This is what I would recommend

An installation of Movabletype or Drupal linked to Vb or IPB for the forums working together it creates a dynamite combination for sports sites

I use CMSimple www.realmadridnews.co.nr , But it is not good with Search Engines.
