I have seen these and I was curious others opinions on them. The paid to read email sites do it a lot. They offer banner impressions and permanent links. featured links in rotation etc.

I was thinking of doing this too to try and bring in some extra revenue since this site is using up a good bit of bandwidth every month.

This is a screenshot of my August 2002 stats. Think they are good enough to charge for banner impressions and featured links etc. ?

You could probably charge something.

You might run into the problem I had a while back, where although you could sell the advertising, the transaction cost almost outweighs it (OK, so you don't need to pay $10 for foregin exchange on checks ) but there will probably be some extra costs.

I would say use the space to improve your traffic, then advertise, but if the bandwidth is a problem maybe that isn't such a good idea

I suppose there's no harm in trying to sell some space tho.... Theres nothing to lose

Well with the Ebay auctions I would only take PayPal so foreign checks are not an issue.

I don't understand what you mean by transaction costs outweighing it?

And no bandwidth isn't an issue.

My apologies, my post didn't really answer the question at all... that'll teach me for trying to be insightful when I'm so tired

The transaction costs stuff was just me having a bit of a rant about the outragous prices of foregin exchange.... I'm always annoyed about it

As for bandwidth, I was assuming you were running a bit low:

but that was probably me reading a bit too much into that phrase

So let me get this straight (this time...). Are you thinking of advertising your own ebay auctions on your site... or am I misunderstanding this

Ah, no I can't run low on bandwidth but it does cost me. That is what I meant by using up bandwidth. The more I use the more I have to pay for it.

I was thinking of putting advertising space on ebay, like banner impressions and I also will soon have a featured link spot on that site.

Let me find an example...

Example of what I mean
