Hi folks,

Tought I would use the time in between projects and try to create some kind of community. Was hoping that I would be able to use some kind of opensource stuff and have heard that both joomla and drupal would be ok for smaller communites?

Are there anyother more, "web 2.0 socialwebsite" sorta stuff one can use? (or even buy I guess, all a matter of price)

I would normally ask one of my programmers to do this sort of heavier stuff but they´re all busy on my other stuff soo :P

Any one has ideas?

Drupal and Joomla have modules/add-ons for making community sites...

phpFox is probably the most polished option, but it's not free. Take a look at it at http://www.phpfox.com/

Thanks ghoti, was impressed by phpfox at first but I really don´t like the myspace styled userpages... will have to check out the joomla version some more..

I use Joomla! and community builder, with a bridged smf forums, after heavy testing it works well for my needs, but it is really an addon to a content driven site, as opposed to a community building solution in itself.

Whilst there are many features to the community builder, it still feels like an addon, as opposed to the centre of the site. Maybe this is just the way I have implemented it. I suppose that if you used it as a base, then at a later date paid a developer to make some improvements to the software if you need it.
