Hi everyone, new here.

Please can anyone advise me on how to attach and upload a word document so when people click on my hyperlink "Directions to venue" a word document will open and they can print it off. I have tried various way's like creating a folder on my ISP upload folder (along with HT Docs and Index Files) called "Downloads" and then uploading the document via FTP. When the hyperlink is clicked, the page can not be found.

Hoping someone can advise please.

Thank you

Simon

First of all, you have to remember that everyone has different computers old and new. Not all computers have "word microsoft" in them.

My best bet is to provide all .doc file, .rtf file, and .txt file. This will give more options for your clients or reader.

Couple questions:
Uploading the document via FTP. Where is it being uploaded? Do you have your own hosting?

I can help you upload (ftp) the word file and make .rtf and .txt file for you to provide. I can also give you the hyperlink urls.

If all fails, I can host the files for you on AYWE. Just let me know. Thanks

Leon

P.s. Welcome to the forums

Hi Leon,

thank you for your reply to my question. I have now managed to get the .doc file up on the ISP (Freeola) and when the hyperlink is clicked, the page opens but not in word, in a new internet explorer window. Why does it not open in word as I need people to be able to print the document off?

Thanks

Simon

It is because you put it as a hyperlink, it will always open up in a window (ie explorer). The only way is for them to download first and then open up the file.

Hi Leon,
thanks again for your reply. This is my point really, how do I set the attachment up once uploaded to my website so people can download it then open it in word? This is the key to what I want to do so people can print things off easily.

Regards

Simon
