Firstly, i am against forcing users to scroll a terms or license textarea before they are able to agree to it. And to a somewhat lesser degree, I'm also against disabling the SUBMIT button until the I AGREE checkbox is ticked.
The only validation thats occurring is that the checkbox must be ticked before the page can be submitted w/o error. User MUST physically agree before they can advance.
But review from the Legal Team (grumble) have requested one or both of these force methods. Not mandated, just suggested. CYA crap.
I am already providing the copy of the Terms & Conditions within a overflow:scroll div (no longer just a link to). Additionally, the I ACCEPT checkbox + SUBMIT button now display below the Terms.
The list seems dumb-obvious and silly to have to compile & present. Chiefly among other arguments: - Highly annoying user experience
- How can Legal not be covered when user must physically agree?
What i'm seeking here from webmaster-talk is if anyone can either provide ADDITIONAL arguments against, either from their experience, or links to persuasive web usability papers that also oppose this practice. Anything; from immature rants to full-on standards declarations.
I've Googled and have not found as much as i thought would be there.
Thanks in advance...
