I'm a huge fan of the CMS concept. It seems like the market is completely flooded with options though. I've personally tried Wordpress, Joomla!, and Drupal. I've absolutely fallen in love with Drupal though. It seems to be the best as far as stability, customization options, standards compliance, and comunity help.

Has anybody else had success with any other CMS options? Are there any "niche" CMSs that are especially good?

Drupal is the best I've seen for Open Source. For simpler apps a home grown versions is better. I've tried a ton of alternatives and they all are either bloatware or have lousy GUI's - making it tough to train a client on maintaining their site.

I have several sites in the myspace niche... There are two very good ones for that niche if your interested.. The first is Marshalls CMS.. (www.creativeaftermath.com) and the 2nd is MSRS (www.myspacepros.com).. both make owning a myspace resource site a breeze, and are the best two CMS's on the market for the niche.

Both have awesome support forums, and Marshall (the creator of the first script) is very supportive of his product and will help you personally

I like Wordpress for simple websites, it is possibile to transform it in a full fledged CMS and Drupal for very complex websites

also if you need a lot of performance you could go with Plone

I did like Wordpress for a simple blogging site, but doing anything advanced with it made me want to rip my hair out.

I haven't ever check out Plone before, but I'll give it a look.

Drupal is very good. Loved using it to begin with... but now it seems just a little 'corporate'. I know you can completely change the appearence and everything with your own themes... But it still doesn't seem flexible enough.

If you're looking to create a community website with lots of members who aren't going to be submitting lots of vontent outside of a forum/chatroom/guestbook then e107 is brilliant! Everything is right there, easy plugin integration, simple to understand mechanics. I don't know php myself but I've been able to customize it exactly how I need it.

Give it a try, I thoroughly recommend it:

I've coded my own CMS or just used a some nice PHP includes to get the navagation, headers and footers. I've never been a fan of using a script 100,000 other people can.

Though, if I had to use a CMS it would be Drupal. Wordpress maybe for a blog.

I use a Category Manager...
Once i tried Drupal but i felt it would be easier if i coded the whole thing myself so drupal was completely useless to me, actually i do think the concept of cms itself a nonsense...

Why do you think there concept is nonsense? For people who lack HTML skills and/or do not have the time to program the pages CMS's are great.
Though having said that, most CMS's are bulked out with featured which can lead to slower load times.

I just use a custom CMS (by me) and use Apache Jackrabbit with PostgreSQL for the backend.

I've never found a general purpose CMS that customizes well.

Ditto, I find if you want something done well you should do it yourself.

I use joomla or Wordpress for most of my sites, which are fine. I've heard great things about Drupal & Xaraja, so I intend to look into these as well.

Drupal is great, its has a built-in permission and security model, the ability to store multiple versions of content.

Wordpress, drupal, and joomla is usually the CMS we use...however we are soon going to be utilizing the expression engine once we get a full grasp of it. It is quite a CMS to say the least.

I used wordpress for my own website, but I never got really into it, so my knowledge is limited there. For the website I am doing now I use Typo3. It is great, but I have to say I took a one-week seminar to learn it and I don't regret it. Not that it is so difficult, but it is very complex. Anyway, once you got the hold on it, it is the best CMS I saw so far.

What would you guys recommend as the easiest CMS to integrate into a current design, I won't be using it too much so I don't want to spend a great deal of time making a template.

Let me ask you this- Is Joomla really worth the trouble to try and install it? The main reason I thought about it, was because of the forum module. I have phpBB through BigForum, but it has limited control. I can't install the latest version of it, and it seems as though StartLogic won't let me install Joomla easily either.
