I use joomla and love it. But I have been wanting to look into Drupal & Xaraja for a while and I will finally have some time coming up to do that.

And have a look at http://opensourcecms.com They have demo's of all open source cms, forums, blogs etc.

Definatly give Joomla a go Quirk. We use it on www.BetGizmo.com

I have always coded websites from ground up in php and MySQL, but decided this time to use a CMS. After much investigation Joomla was chosen. All CMS packages take a little learning but once you have the base application and a few useful FREE extensions running you can then concentrate more time on the business of running a business and not a web site.

Hope this helps

You should try freelancing and see how easy it is developing different versions of the same thing every other week. Using a CMS makes life SOOO much easier.

Joomla is my CMS of choice. I suppose it's because it's something I've been familiar with and I just have not been interested in going through a learning curve for another CMS. 1.5 offers a slew of updates and changes so I'm trying to get used to the new templating system on there, fortunately there are a lot of good resources - Also the new, more basic admin UI makes it easier to train people.

Wordpress is my blog/static CMS software of choice. Since it can double as a CMS I plan on using it on a few of my more basic sites. But anything more advanced (requiring integrated forums, contact forms, etc.) goes over to Joomla because of the development time involved.

I love wordpress but joomla and drupal are also favorites. If you want to pay for a CMS license, then hands down, get expression engine.

I just can't see paying my Host to let me use a free program. That doesn't make sense, and I can't seem to get it to install because of the way they are set up. Rock>me<Hard place...

I use Blosxom to power my blog, and the OpenVMS file system to manage the content. Each post is a simple text file, which can be uploaded from anywhere via ftp.
I realize that probably makes me a dinosaur, but everything runs on an Alphaserver DS20 that I manage and control. No hosting company headaches, no bandwidth issues, and triple-redundant connectivity via my own AS.
Plus it’s fun to peruse my server logs and see how many Wordpress or Blogger centric attic vectors hit me only to be dropped harmlessly on the machine room floor.

I don't have a lot of experience with CMSs, however one that I think comes in hand is CushyCMS. It is extremely lightweight, its main purpose is to give designers the ability to let their clients update their own pages.

For example I designed my clients website (static xhtml, css) and he said he wanted to be able to easily update one section weekly. I just find the section he wants to be able to update, and put a div with a class around the area I wan him to be able to update. Then I give the CushyCMS system the FTP login details and viola. He can go it and edit that one div, very easily.

I prefer Wordpress, the other cms tools can be overwhelming for clients because they typically have really limited knowledge.

I have to say I think Wordpress is very easy to use and is the best tool for blogging great for complete beginners, but can be modded to create a more complex site. I like drupal for more complicated sites there is a great community attached to both so if you need supprt when something goes wrong, (and it usual does at some point) you always have someone to ask!

We use

Expression Engine
Word Press
and Joomla

looking into Drupal again

also, Magento Commerce is simply a shopping cart, not really a CMS it self.
