I use website tonight to make my website.....if your not familiar with this its what godaddy recommends to use. It is not an html editor so it limits the things i can do. I want to switch to a html editor but my budget is only $100...do you suggest i stick with website tonight or switch to an html editor?

Many of us here are hand coders so you'll probably get a lot of recommendations for html editors. I use HTML Kit, which is free.

You can also check this list for other free code editors.

I'll also recommend Filezilla as an FTP program, which is also free.

Save the $100 for hosting costs.

I've seen a site or two that used website tonight and I think the service is not worth the cost. From what I can tell you pay more for hosting and actually get less for that money. The only advantage seems to be that you don't need to know html to build a web page. I'd recommend switching the hosting. I forget the exact prices, but I'm guessing you're paying about $50/month when you could get more hosting for about $10/month.

Give them a call and ask about switching and what's involved. I had them switch a client's site and they were very helpful on the phone. I think they'll even take care of the whole thing for you or at least stay on the phone with you while you make the changes.

And Evan your question was not stupid.

That's pretty much it. HTML Kit does have some FTP capability built into it, but it's not quite as strong as Filezilla when it comes to FTP. I do use HTML KIt for light FTP work; maybe a few files or images. I'll use Filezilla when I want to upload or download all the files of a site or in a specific folder.

HTML Kit also lets you edit the files directly on the server, though you should be careful doing that since you would be working on the live copy of the file.

I like UltraEdit, but I went with the free options. I used the trial version awhile back and liked UltraEdit a lot, but it wasn't enough to get me to shell out the money to buy it. I might at some point, though.
