Having previously designed static sites using Dreamweaver, I'n now tinkering with Drupal - see www.guitarstringguide.com

Any Drupal users/experts here? If so, any top tips for do's and don'ts when starting a new site?

Thanks!

I use Drupal. It's pretty handy.

I'm not sure what you want to know exactly! I would spend a lot of time just playing around in admin and figuring out what things do. There are some sections that aren't named the best, and this will help you figure out the terminology.

Also, get in step with Drupal terminology. For example, they have "pages" and "stories." A Page is what you will use for something fairly static, like an about page. You can still edit it and all that, but it by default it has some different settings (such as commenting disallowed by default). A story is what you will use for most of the posts in a Category.

There are some nice modules, which I recommend: Google Analytics add-on, CAPTCHA add-on, but I do NOT recommend the Google AdSense add-on.

Make sure you look through the user privileges and set them up the way you want.

Not sure if it'll be link-dropping, so if you want to check out my site, PM me.

It takes a bit of time to get the hang of it, but I like it. The Drupal forum offers plenty of help.

Drupal is definitely worth spending the time mastering it, you can basically use it to build different kind of websites by just mixing the plugins with the core, much better if you know PHP.

I use Drupal and I think it very much worth the time to learn. All of the above and you can add anything you are capable of programming a module for.
