What is going to be the best dimensions for making a website in photoshop. I want it to look good on a 13'' and a 25'' screen. Also I know some web sites are able to expand to each different computer and browser. Is there some code in css or html which would allow my website to expand like that?

Thanks for helping me out its been years since I've done anything with building websites and coding and that was basic knowledge.

Don't make websites using photoshop is the first bit of advice. The physical screen size is not important as you should be looking at the screen resolution, even someone with a 23 monitor may well be browsing at 1024 x 768.

It really boils down to what type of site the layout is for and the target audience.

For fluid layouts (expanding) you specify all your widths in %'s or in em's (relative sizes).

Ok I was doing a stock website similar to fool.com simple layout easy on any computer. I have always done photoshop layouts but it never looked good on different screens. Probably don't need photoshop for alot than just my logo then. Just the basic code and thats it?

I don't know.. I DESIGN all my sites in Photoshop, most are fixed width, but some are fluid. I think what Chris really means is do NOT use the ImageReady method of 'slicing' and outputting the HTML for a site.. that IS bad !

I'm unsure of what you are talking about. I found a youtube video of what I plan on doing. This is the kind of slicing I plan on doing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBEg8...eature=related This is the type of layout and slicing I plan on doing, and have done a few times before. But is this a bad way of slicing or making for a fluid layout? I have never made a fluid layout before so I am unsure of the best way of approaching this.

Thanks in advance

Yes, it's a bad way-- because the code that Photoshop will output is a MESS! Photoshop is a GRAPHICS program, it is NOT a web page creation tool.

Use the slice tool to output the IMAGES, but do NOT use the generated HTML, it'll be a nightmare.

hahah it looks like you've had experience. Do you suggest a decent program that you use or that a beginner would be able to use with relative ease?

You could say that.. I've been building web sites for 12 years

My advice.. learn to code HTML BY HAND, and learn CSS. If books help you, I recommend this one: http://www.sitepoint.com/books/html1/

Once you have that down, then using a tool like Dreamweaver, CoffeeCup or other software is helpful.

I use photoshop to design all my sites as well.

I used to slice all the images up but now i create different layers and do the slicing that way.

same thing, just done differently.

listen to LadynRed, she seriously knows what she's talking about...SERIOUSLY!

I did it all backwards though. I learned CSS last, and it made my life a lot easier when i learned it.

good luck!

Hmmm... interesting. I've always used the html code that Photoshop provides me after i'm finished slicing. How would you go abouts hand coding the html/css to make the layout function?
