If it suited the sites content and the client could understand the admin then yes.

I have offered Joomla to clients before but the admin proved way to complicated for most of them.

Well, in the past I did, but just like blue-dreamer, my clients found it quite complicated. Now, I've created my own CMS, and that's the only one I offer to my clients.

agree, it really depend what your clients' requirements are and if they are able to pick up with using the program.

No, I would not. I think the learning curve is too difficult and I like to be able to handoff to my clients knowing they can jump right in if the need arises.

The only way I would? If the site was already using Joomla or the client was proficient with Joomla-- [why then would they need me?]

Absolutely I would.... You just need to give your clients a simple tutorial for performing their basic actions in the admin interface. I've easily been able to hand off a site to the most novice users and very advanced users without a problem.

I wouldn't unless they had some experience with a previous CMS. Joomla is great but requires a video tutorial. I mean you could have a value added serivice by showing how to use it because it does makes designing sites easy

No, unless you are planning to teach them how to use and manage it. It is powerful but has quite a learning curve to it.

agree, it really depend what your clients' requirements as the admin area can be hard to understand.

No, I wouldn't use it for anything. It's an overhyped mess held together by bandaids and gum.

Its only redeeming feature is a WYSIWYG editor. The interface is unintuitive and poorly thought through. What takes one step in another CMS solution takes five in Joomla.

The real pain starts once you try to do something out of the box though. Forget trying to throw in a PHP snippet here and there (like you can in other CMS solutions), you have to write modules for absolutely everything, and subsequently expose yourself to some of the ugliest and most verbose code I've ever seen.

Furthermore it doesn't come with much features out of the box, so be prepared to use allot of buggy and non supported 3rd party modules.

Joomla works fine if you're doing something very simple I guess. But then again, if you're doing that you're better of with Wordpress or something.

Consider Drupal if you're doing something community related.

I wonder what would happen if Joomla suddenly became commercial software at $$ for a site licence - would people still use it?

(before anyone starts about opensource etc etc this is a hypothetical question)

I've heard bad things about Joomla. Not many people in the industry know how to work with it - of course this could put you in a profitable niche, but it doesn't leave a lot of options for forum support / outsourcing. I'd stick with Wordpress personally.
