Hi again,
I seem to be experiencing problems trying to link to a folder from a webpage designed in dreamweaver.
I have copied and pasted the link \\999.999.999.999\ftproot\myfolder into the web-browser and it prompts me for my user name and password then works fine... it opens up OK. However trying to create a link from the webpage to this address fails. It cannot find the page. I checked the code and discovered it was inserting 5%C or something similar where the \ characters were. I then copied and pasted the correct link in and tried again. Although it was now pointing to the correct location it still failed with the same error !! Why is it doing this ? Is this a common problem ? Does anyone know a workaround ?

Best regards,
Mitch

Thanks Praveen,
I gave that a try but no joy. Even typing it directly into the web browser and it gives the no page error message !!

Tried that too... still no luck...HOWEVER........
I tried linking to anotehr FTP site from a webpage.... and that did'nt work either, but linking to ftp://ftp.dell.com and it lets you in. the difference between that Dell ftp site and the other FTP sites is that the Dell site is not username/password protected. Clicking on my password protected ftp site does nothing. No error, no 404 nothing.. the link does'nt go anywhere !!
Update... actually after about 2 mins it does open a folder area but there is nothing in it !!

Thanks again for your advice though.
It does'nt seem like it but i've made a lot of progress today !!

OK, just for a ref to you guys in case you come across this problem yourself, I managed to get it working. Instead of the link opening the FTP site in that current browser i've made it open a different browser session and it now works perfect. So instead of _self it is _blank Not sure why it wont open a FTP site in the current session but this is the workaround.

Praveen, thanks again for your advice and assistance,
Mitch....
