Hi All,

I am a self proclaimed programmer mainly php/mysql but i do know java and c/c++. I have just finished a small site for a young biotech company that hired a desing company to do the site graphics/layout. I have some questions about the practices that they design company has.

1. The whole site was done in one Adobe Illustrator EPS file, and given to me to slice up, is this common practice? Seems odd to me

2. Why do design companies care so much about text formatting? It isn't going to look the same in all browsers anyway.

3. Do you like this layout/design? www.neuromedtech.com

Thanks for your input.

Different Designers prefer different graphic applications - there is no right or wrong application with which to design a website. Most designers use Fireworks, Photoshop or Illustrator. You will probably find the ones who you Photoshop and Illustrator often design on Mac systems and are used to designing for print and not just for web.

Designers care a lot about text formatting because most are used to designing for the printed mediums where text formatting is everything. They can control how text appears on the web in different browsers by using common text fonts and CSS style sheets for rendering the formatting.

The design you posted looks simple and clean although a little bit plain. However, any designer will tell you "Keep it Simple" because this is always effective.

Yes, the "keep it short and simple" approach is very effective. I like the design. It is has clean lines, subtle colors and simple appeal.

I like the design, it's clean, easy to navigate, fast, compatible and just one. (don't know the exact English word).

What i don't like (and that's just my humble opinion, but maybe it's usefull for you):

- The homepage intro, it's too big, maybe make the fram a little smaller in height.
- Needs more color, i know it's clean and i think you want to keep it that way, but all photographs are in 1 tone, which is good, but to have the logo and the font in the same tone get's a little boring, you might want to try one other tone for breaking it. On the other hand if you use your tone enough like one page investment, it looks good again.
- Maybe centered will look better
- Lose the side lines
- Maybe a slightly editted back

But overall nice webdesign just the kind of sites i like

When I design sites I use PhotoShop with Illustrator as a backup for curves or logos. But every designer is different - heck, some of them have even tried to send me Quark and PDF files to use for the design. I think it depends on their background. I can usually tell the difference between a graphic designer who designed a web site and a web designer.

I like the design. I agree with Design that the home page should be centered. If your client is interesed in showing up in Search Engines then you need to work with the designer and client to come up with some HTML text for the home page.

That's my two cents.
Kim
