Hey all !

Well, I have an question I'd like to pose to you fellow webmasters and designers.

I have a friend who paid a great deal of money for a website, and the site is not 800 x 600 compatible -a large portion of the site is of the side of the screen - horizontal scroll annoyance.

Anyways, I always design to be ATLEAST 800 x 600 compatible, as I was always under the impression of there being still a significant portion of users in that camp.

Am I just an old foggy in my 20's who's not moved with the times, or is it good nettiqute to cater to these users ? I feel for an ecommerce site, that atleast 800 x 600 resolution users should be catered for, what are your thoughts and does he have grounds for concern if his current designers didnt' seem to notice it ?

Pleased to meet you Kozmikdaisy!

We have a 21" and a 19" monitor set for 800 x 600, we also design our websites with this resoution which is the standard, there are a lot of different opinions. Anything larger for us we would need a pair of binoluclars just to read our desktop icons. My husband is 70 years old and now can see his 21" monitor pretty good wearing contacts plus a pair of glasses. One has to keep in mind, there are a lot of people in their 20's-30's and up who also have vision problems. Some of the websites I see the content is so small, plus cluttered, well I just click off and I know a lot of other people do too, now you just lost possible clients. I am a business woman, my concern is for potenial clients.

I do think your friend has grounds for concern and should have this corrected by the web designer.

Best Wishes,
Giselle

I've got a 15'' monitor and 800x600 resolution - it's the best for me. 1024 - it's too small. and i prefer designing for at least 800*600 too.
