I have tried every SMTP server in existence, PostCast, everything on google, and none ever send... I am trying to send mail with a basic PHP script, and it never works. It only sends on my hostgator and 1and1 accounts...

can I get help with this please?? I recently got DSL and it comes with a built in router, could that affect it?

If you're on DSL, your SMTP server will likely be that belonging to your DSL. That's the case with almost all DSL providers here.

As chrishirst said, you may also need to authenticate to the server (although I doubt it with a DSL connection.)

Okay...

I mean that your DSL provider will have an SMTP server used for its (whatever)@(dsl provider.com) email accounts, so that customers can send/receive email using that DSL provider.

You probably won't need the email account itself, but you will probably need that SMTP server.

For more information than that, you'll have to contact your DSL provider since it's an ISP specific setting.

if you are using windows 2003 but looks like xp, if its 2003 you can install the SMTP service on the OS, then create a user for the php mailer and only php, and use your own to rely msgs it wont receive emails but you will be able to send emails.

this method also eliminates the using of your ISP mail servers, ESP if you get a lot of vistors that use this script,(as many if not all ISP's have clauses for residental dsl owners or any hispeed internet users on the residential zone that PROHIBATES the use of web servers and such) and they could look at there logs if you are using your own ISP to bounce the email to the internet and say wtf is going on and shut you down.
