Windows webserver 2003 sp2 iis6

Hi
I can call up the site in the iis6 control panel by browsing from the default website icon.
I can access the web site locally if i type something like http://xxx.xxx.xxx.153:80

but if i type my address that i have aquired from the (proxy) dyndns.com i cant access the website not even if i type http://www.xxx.xxx.xxx.177.net

or eurogites.thruhere.net
Ive checked to see if the port 80 is open and it is without obstructions

Has anyone got any ideas please....

Are you trying to access the server from itself?
  • Browsers assume Port 80, you don't need to add it to your URL.
  • Use either the IP OR the domain name not a combination. (http://IP ORhttp://domain.net NOT http://www.IP.net)
  • Without a few changes to your hosts file you will not be able to access your server from within the same network via the external IP/domain.
You sure your site is "http://www.eurogites.thruhere.net/" and not "http://eurogites.thruhere.net/"? Check your settings with DynDNS.

If your server is behind a router/firewall, check your settings (Forwarding).

You could also try:
  1. From the server goto "http://www.whatismyip.com".
  2. Write down your current "external" IP.
  3. From a computer not on the same network as your server goto the IP recorded in step 2.
  4. If that works, it is most likely your DynDNS settings.
I doubt that'll help given the volume of potential causes, but here's to hoping.

plus:

does your ISP block inbound port 80 through their network?

does your router have a http configuration page? If so that will be on port 80 and blocked from external IPs
