I have been working on a program i call 'cPanel Website Buddy'. The idea behind it is it stores all of your websites information so you can access major parts of your site with a simple click from your taskbar.

so far you can access things like cPanel, webmail, awstats, bandwidth, server status and more just by right clicking the programs icon and selecting a place to go. It even supports custom cpanel ports and SSL connections.

Another good feature i have added is a ping test, one click of a button tells you your websites ping response time and lets you know if your website is down I have also added an announcements message box which is pulled from a text file online.

All you have to do is go to file-settings and put in all the info, once you hit ok, it is saved to an INI file, don't worry though, all of the data is encrypted to prevent people been able to see your info. I do not store this info either, it is only stored in the folder in which you have website buddy.


I have not yet released this to the public, you are the first people to see this.



I need people to beta test this for me and report any bugs or suggest new features. I want to make sure this is perfect before i release it

Some fetures i am thinking about adding, but need some feedback before i go ahead.

Fast Upload - FTP function that allows you to drag a file on to the window and it will instantly upload to a folder on your server that you specified in the settings.

Alert - Refresh the ping at a pre-determined rate and if the website is down, the program will alert you with a sound.

Notify - If you don't respond to the website down notification, the software will email your web hosts support email with information about the downtime and request they look into it.

I've downloaded it, and have tested it. However, you should also consider adding a WHM and SSH button.

WHM i can do, but SSH i would need to add an SSH client which would be quite complicated. Or am i just overthinking things here and theres another option?

Nope you are correct. This is out of my knowledge - however you could try at searching and opening a SSH client that is already installed. The same thing could be done with the FTP setting. For example:

If FTP client is found - open that. If not, open the cPanel file manager. Again - I'm just trying to help out .

Im actually going to be adding an ftp client at some point, so the ftp would be pointless.

I am looking into different SSH clients, trying to see if theres any i could bundle with my program and pass arguments on to it to open up a session with details given to website buddy.

Probably not, im not sure if it would work under WINE or some other simirlar program. You could always test it ands let me know

Ok, here goes for the third time!

I downloaded the program and installed it on my Linux Desktop.

Ubuntu 8.04 running Wine configured as Windows XP and a virtual desktop

Extracted to a folder called websitebuddy. Run the EXE and I get:

Title Bar
Menu Bar (File, Help)
Black workspace, sometimes with a band of scrambled graphics.


I do see about 3 rows of buttons for half a second in the workspace.

Create a shortcut icon in the websitebuddy folder, which does the same thing as the program.

Move the shortcut out of websitebuddy and I get this error:

I can abort, ignore, copy, clear.

If I ignore, I get same error again. Obviously I need to add websitebuddy to my Wine path.

Mailto Obfuscator, a tool for Webmasters to encode email addresses in their web pages.
IrfanView, an image viewer and editor, with great crop feature

Then there's Winamp. A little buggy with window movements with the mouse, cannot use the media library unless first loaded with music while using a certain modern skin. It does run the main window, graphic EQ and playlist editor flawlessly, and runs when Rhythmbox is dead in the water.
