Who Doesn't Run a Control Panel? |

Who in here doesn't use a Control Panel (Cpanel or Plesk for example) to manage their server? I stopped using a Control Panel around September 2007 and have never looked back. It's so much more efficient I believe. You know exactly what is installed and can better manage expanding your server in the future with new upgrades.
Right now I am using Apache 2.2.6 but I am contemplating moving to either an Apache/Lighttpd setup or LiteSpeed setup.

I am.
My server is running Gentoo linux, and every configuration I do is by hand. In fact, I do have a control panel on a cheap shared hosting where I've put some low interest but high sized sites. But I must say that I don't like it. It's too much abstracted for me. I sometimes need to do particular tricks, and those control panels are holding me back.

I don't think I can go on a full-scale solution without some sort of control panel in place. On my home Linux server running Fedora 8, though, I don't run any control panel (why pay?). But I'm a big fan of cPanel and have also administered machines with Plesk.
I really am more of a CLI type person, but the GUI isn't so bad at times... ![]()

when we move to our own server - we won't be running a control panel. Most stuff you can do in a text editor pretty quickly right from a command line.

Cost of the license and reduced memory usage. cPanel is a memory pig. I would learn to love how to do it.
