If you are wanting to FTP stuff to your VPS space, then you will need to ensure that you have the correct information from your host.

They will normally be able to supply the information on request or guide you where you can find it in your control panel. If you didn't purchase the domain name from them, then it may take upto 48hrs or so for the domain name to propgate through the net (although there should be some way to access your space immediately after it is set-up).

It may also depend on which FTP software you are using to access there server (you may need to enter additional information). Although your webhost should be familiar with how people connect to their VPS through various FTP programmes.

My only advice is therefore to check with your webhost and to check your control panel to ensure you are using the correct connection information.

Hello and thx for the replay,
I contact my host and i ask them how i can connect to my VPS using FTP program, as all i want to do on my VPS is run phpbb from it... thats the replay i got

" Please notice that you can not access your VPS server via FTP, unless create an account on it.
Afetr creating account, you should create FTP user, then you will be able access that account via FTP. "

Now i try adding more resellers or admins that have access to the FTP but i still cant connect to the server... I feel like a total n00b using this VPS, i though will be just like a regular server but i guess i was much wrong... I can take some screen shots of what the panels look like. Thx again

Here is a ss from where i can upload files like the "index" from the panel but when i upload them i cant find there urls....

s-torm.com/01.jpg

I even went into /home/ftp/ and loaded a index file there but i still cant seem to find it on the url

s-torm.com/02.jpg

They also give me 2 DNS Ips,
66.49.194.253
66.49.254.254

When i go to the first one a page comes out of no where that i even have no idea where it is... i keep trying to add users and connect from cuteFTP but still cant connect.

I try adding users from here

s-torm.com/03.jpg

But it seems like im adding users from something else... I don't seem to find other place i can add users from... And i don't even know how I'm going to run SQL from the VPS too for my phpbb... ahh =\
Thx for the help

Have you created an account for the domain name you are wanting to use, and set up your domain name servers?

Through VPS (at least from my experience) you need to have some Linux admin experience. I'm guessing you have SSH access and need to create the FTP user, setup your mySQL etc.... if you do not have Linux admin experience you either better start reading, get someone to do it for you, or stay away from VPS.

Ok ill try to explain it a little better, i had normal web hosting with canaca.net and i have phpbb board running on it. And they made a complain that there was too many users connecting at the same time... so they suspend my account and said my only option was to get VPS with them. So i ordered one and yesterday i got all the information, and i have no clue how to transfer my phpbb data from my old server to the VPS and have the SQL set up. I try to connect so many times using cuteFTP thats how i usually connect to my normal server but i cant connect to it at all... so i try using the data transfer thing they have in the control panel but i don't know where i upload those files too... trust me i been searching on google for over 5 hours now and I'm back to the beginning, as simple as i thought it would be its been hell so far. And the bad part is i only have 4 days to test it out or they charge me for it.
Thx for the help guys

Do you have cPanel with your VPS?

If you have cPanel, then you would need to create an FTP user via the FTP Manager.

If you do not have cPanel, but some other method of accessing your VPS via a browser, then you will need to look for something similar to FTP manager that basically lets you create an FTP user and link that FTP user to a domain name (or directory folder).

To be honest, if they didn't transfer your account over to their VPS hosting, then they are not a host I would consider. It shows they only wanted you to upgrade but could not care if you were able to use it.

They should have also given you a link on how to create an FTP user - or guided you through the steps you needed to take. They basically assumed you knew it and definately I wouldn't think about hosting with them on the basis their customer service is highly inadequate and highly assumptive.
