I've heard that you can use a proxy server to mask your server location and stop people from knowing your ip address.

I'd like to do that so i can remain incognito on forums that my competitors frequent.

Could some one please tell me how to set up a proxy server or a web address where i can find one. Thanks

try freshbb.com - just type the url in the input box and click the button - cookies are enabled if you want them to be (u'll geta little frame at the top where u can check the boxes u want).

be careful though - proxy providers could snoop on ur log in details!

after using a proxy to log in somewhere, request a new password to be sent to ur email address, then click the link to validate it a.s.a.p.

Try searching for "proxy lists" and use a proxy scanner such as CHARON

Sure it is possible to hide ip address behind proxy but you need to know basic thing about proxy server, how it works, how to find it and test it and how to configure your browser behind proxy server.
Good start should be to check ProxyBlind proxyblind.org site where you can find a lot useful informations regarding proxies including free proxy software.
Note your information displayed to you at the top of the home page. This is what your browser is giving to every website that you visit.
probably the easiest way for starting is to download and install tor.eff.org TOR and start to surf anonymously.
If you need any help regarding proxy feel free to ask it on ProxyBLind proxyblind.org/proxyblind-forum/ Proxy Server forum.
For learning basic thing about proxy server is needed time.

Good luck
