Do you even thinking to host your site on free host? Do you trust free host? I am just getting a reseller package and thinking to offer free hosting.

I have used free hosts in the past, but some of them have been low quality. One of them actually just disappeared on me without warning in a month. There are actually good free hosts available, just that some impose strict bandwidth/filesize limits.

the biggest problem with free hosting is that you never know if it would still be here tomorrow. I personally think that the most important thing is to own and register with some "serious" registrant a domain name, because that way, if your hosting company closes down you will probably go offline for 1 -2 days while, but in global, you won't lose traffic.

For some of my sites (which i find less important) i use high quality free hosting, which is far better from some paid ones. however, for the business site i decided to settle on a paid host, just to save me headache

If you are thinking of providing a free host, how profitable do you think it would be? would it be ads supported, or provided in exchange for forum activity?

Another good way of making money off providing free hosting, which also projects a more professional image and displays stability, is offering free accounts with limited capabilities, and offering paid plans as well... This way people get the free hosting, if they are happy with it and their site grows, they will pay you for a more space and bandwidth.

It would probably be ad supported and have other paid plans along with it. I don't really like having to require forum activity before free hosting is given, it tends to invite those that "spam" on your forums just to get hosting.

I only trust free hosts if I see good reviews on it..
and is a large hosting website.

And mostly, they have a forum, look at their support section to see how much problems they have. Or to look at the popularity.

Well I get free hosting, but only because a good friend of mine runs the company

I've used other free hosts in the past, and as was mentioned, the biggest problem is really reliability.

I was in first with paid hosts.

which i would say have never Ever given me any downtime.

There are still good free hosts only that they are not actually free because there are strings attached. For instance, you can get a free hosting offer but you have to display their ads in your site.

zeeblo is a good free host.
I usually look at their support section to see what problems they have, and I always look for reviews on the site first.

I seen a case when a person got their account up for free hosting, uploaded their backup for a quite large forum, and the host got hacked and went down after 2 days of the person's account being alive. And they didn't bak it up. Lost 3 months of forum data.

Things happen..
