I have a dedicated server with Dreamhost which in my opinion is the worst host out there (have been with them for 6 years so I can talk), down time almost every month do to problems that always reacur, in fact their entire network was down for 24 hours last weekend, guess how much money I made that day - nothing!

A big problem they have is they do not own their own data center so they are at the mercy of the bulding they rent, they don't own their UPS or generators either and the list goes on. In fact as I type 3 of my databases are either down or having problems.

Check the Dreamhost problems from their very own blog, it's good reading: http://blog.dreamhost.com

Also, they have never or will they ever have phone support nor will they ever own their data center so I must move on, I should have done this years ago.

I have learned from this though, my next dedicated host MUST own their own data center.

With this being said I am starting my search, I will start with liquidweb, they own their own state of the art data center along with UPS, generators etc. and I hear good things from them, check it out: https://www.liquidweb.com/about/datacenter.htm

Not sure on the 50/50 bandwidth thing, will have to check into that, any other hosts that own their own data center that you would recomend?

IF you need managed, then LiquidWeb is very good.

If not, I suggest going with softlayer.com - their portal and customer service is amazing. You can do literally everything from their online panel, from automatic OS reinstalls (free), managing reverse DNS, logging in via VPN, etc.

I've been using The Planet for about a year and a half now and couldn't be happier. They've got great prices and their support is world class.

If you look around the Dedicated Server Offers forum on WebHostingTalk you can usually find some server sales they are having (look for posts by YourHost).

I couldn't agree more, I too have a dedicated server at ThePlanet and don't have any plans on leaving. Awesome servers and awesome support!

ThePlanet has become pretty expensive in my opinion. I am with them since 2004, but do consider going to Softlayer with my business.

If you need it managed i've heard that liquidweb is one of the best US based managed providers, they have also just opened their second DC so have some good deals going on over at WHT.

For unmanaged both softlayer and layeredtech are very good - you can get a discount on both of them by going through server4sale
