I was once the owner of a quite popular N64 ROM site. My site was completely spyware free, and people could actually download what they wanted without getting infected be viruses and need to vote on ten different top sites.

However, my previous hosts liked to hold my site hostage and force me to write scripts for them to get it back, kick me off because I used too much bandwidth, or kick me off because they themselves could not pay for their own dedicated server.

I know that hosting ROMs is a very grayish area when it comes to hosting, but I was wondering if anyone could host my site (for example if your servers are off-shore). I am looking for 4GB space (3.5GB to be exact) and around 500GB of bandwidth per month.

Your going to need a dedicated server, not only do most hosts / vps providers not allow roms, but looking at N64 Roms file size.. your going to need a decent amount of space and most important, bandwidth!

For a dedicated server I recommend www.liquidweb.com, theyre the cheapest and best. However, I am not sure how they will take to hosting Roms, because im sure thats illegal, at least in the USA.

Well I kind of meant it to go hand in hand. For the best dedicated server, they are the cheapest. Actually not even that; for the bandwidth they give you and the space the give you and the support the give you i've never seen such a deal anywhere else!

No? Let me see another.

In the EU its illegal too so you're going to have to look further afield. Might find something in Russia or Indonesia or something!

Does any hosting company legally allow pirated content?

Roms are just that 99% of the time. Unless you personally made them as a backup and can prove ownership.

Nintendo hits hard on these but mostly only agasint their own IP. I'd be very careful.

yes, espcially with thier release of the Nintendo Revolution, so ive heard it will play ALL previous games via rom download from thier internet site. But you have to pay for it, so i would think that nintendo would be cracking down on people giving/selling nintendo roms, esp. nintendo 64

Yeah but I'm sure Nintendo won't hit hard for smaller sites. You'd have to be one of the bigger sites for companies to go after you.

ouch... my guess is that if it isn't allowed here and even some off-shore places are not allowing it, it could be that it is just wrong. since it is so easy to do things on the internet and with technology... it seems that a lot of people have forgotten about the basics... just because it is possible doesn't mean it is right. sharing roms is just like mp3's... but with an added kick. you're not just shareing them in your p2p software, you're using them to draw people to your site where you make money with adsens or some other method. so you're making money on other people's efforts.... with stolen goods.

No. I was not making any money off of my website. As I said in my first post:

I did not have any personal interests in becoming rich from my ROM site. Heck, I payed out of my own pocket for the hosting!
