My worse experience ever was with tailormadeservers.com they were good at first when I bought the server. However, in a few months to come (say 2-3) the server administrator or whatever, decided to turn his back on me. He closed down all of my servers due to one having a torrenting program on it. It was not my fault yet he insisted it was. So he locked all my servers and I had no way of accessing it.. Pretty lame if you ask me.. So never go with TailorMadeServers :dots:

My worst was with f5hosting. They had been great for abotu 18 months, then suddenly my site would go down regularly, and there were many times when it just moved very slowly.

I would contact support to tell them my site was down and they would email back 45 minutes later that it wasnt down. Well, by then it had been rebooted and running again. They never would acknowledge that the server was crashing. They even told me a couple times that it was my ISP. At that point I blew up and forwarded them emails from everyone asking me what happened to the site. It pissed them off, but they did finally acknowldege a problem.

I decided then that shared hosting was no longer an option for me.

In 2 years:
- Three hard drive failures (four if you count the one that made me leave)
- Regular "Power outages" and "UPS failures"
- Bandwith cut off due to "construction"
- Regular DDOS attacks slowed bandwidth to a crawl
- Terrible support, almost none at night (when most problems seem to happen), long wait times, clueless technicians.
- Longest uptime: 70 days, average 30 days
- Lost a Fortune 500 client because of too much downtime

I loose track of all the other problems, like waking up from a bad dream.

And the sucky-est web hosting company is...

So, does anyone recommend some good free hosts?
Addyour.net my friend

My worst experience is with a rubbish host who could not manage or support there clients and the server, had no stability and closed within3 months I then learnt that cheap is not always the best

That is why your hosts aren't any good.. Because they are free. They have no obligation to give you premium service.

Same experience with Bryan here, Hostgator is just pain in the ***, first of all i have standar downtime of about 1 hour per month, second, on the beginnning after my first 3 months was ending i ask invoices to make a pre-payment for next months, i pay him and after one month receive email that my account will be suspended because i didnt pay him.... and now something happens and i have also "credit" on hostgator (same as Bryan) and yesterday, i just contact him for some info and the answer was "I cant answer to you and i dont know why your account is not suspended yet" WTF!!!!!!!!!

This is my worst experience with hosting company, it was much better when i have dedicated server on S4Y and now thinking to turn it back...

And also their affiliate programm SUX, i have about 30 clicks every day and i just can't believe that is no sale yet in 4 months.

I cannot personally say i've had a bad experience from, Media Temple, Host Gator, Hosted FX, or a few others.

The one I use now Media Temple, they configure there servers so much different, and most scripts don't work. You only get 5 MySQL databases, which I believe costs them not a cent more to add to 6. There support is very fast I have to give them that.

I remember I was trying to get hosted from this one site. I AIMed the person and they didn't respond so I left my computer for a couple minutes. I come back and the person blocks my AIM for not responding. Mind you, I talked to this person on AIM a couple times before. Turns out he has had numerous amounts of pissed off customers prior to me. Thank god I didn't purchase from him earlier. Blocking a potential customer and refusing business because they went AFK for a bit. I laugh at the though.

My worst experience was with LolHosting.com. It was back in 2003 when I was starting a hosting company and basically I bought a 600/*Year* reseller account with 100GB Data and 400GB BW, I thought "Wow this is good!" Well to make a long painful story short, he stopped offering support, did not answer my emails, blocked all of my AIM screen names, gave my password to people who asked him, and the server would go down for 3 weeks at a time. When I payed via paypal with a paycheck he was like "WTF an ECHECK YOUR SCAMMING ME AREN'T YOU. Well, I am not setting up the hosting until it clears." It cleared, I should have cancelled it then but I didn't. He was highly unprofessional and the name LOL Hosting fixed his business practices because it was highly childish and far from serious or professional. The good thing is that he stopped hosting thank God!

I don't like being a reseller; therefore, my customers are advised to stay with there current host whenever possible. As a result, I sometimes run into a real ringer of a hosting company.

I've had to move customers from godaddy hosting, not because it was bad but because it can't accommodate any form of deviation from their business model. Also, Interland.com (web.com) has been hard to work with as they won't allow me access to .htaccess files.

My current favorite is http://www.site5.com/

I've been with them for a while and have brought them over a dozen customer accounts.

I client that I made a site for a couple of months ago used a host called Canadian Internet Publishing. I got so pissed off -- it's not actually a company. It's one guy. And that guy takes 1 week to answer emails and he's never at the phone >=(.

DreamHost all the way  Seriously..$8 a month, 1TB of bandwidth 20GB of space -- and it always automatically increases!

www.siteground.com - Their support time is fast, but you can only get support 7 times. They don't tell you that until you're actually hosted with them. I cancelled right away because I was a newbie then and I know I would need more support. Heck, whithin the four days I had filed two support tickets, imagine a year.

I agree with the post above, dreamhost rocks!!!!!!!!!!

Get level 1 for a year, just by using "777" in the coupon field! But you need a Credit Card.

I just made a thread about it, but this is what it said...

"SurfSpeedy Hosting...

Ok so I heard from someone that I should use surfspeedy hosting for my vbulletin site, so I checked out their site, it was cheap and they looked great. Now a month later, I wish I would have never though about using surfspeedy in any way possible.

Their security is horrible, and my site got hacked through another account on the server. Then then attempted to fix it and made it worse by deleting my files on accident which were not recently backed-up. Then they told me they would have everything fixed in about 3 hours. FIVE DAYS LATER... I finally got sick of their lies and contacted their manager and told him exactly what was on my mind.

His solution for the problem and the havok he reaked on my website? He banned me from their website and will not allow me to usethe support system anymore. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention... my account still is not working and goes on and off from that hack that happened about 6 days ago now.

On their homepage it clearly says that they have 100% satisfaction garantee and 100% uptime. So I figured I would give that a shot through a proxy so I could get on their site. I sent 3 tickets now through their support system in the past 2 days and still no response. I am pretty sure they are just instantly trashing them because I checked the status on them and they say CLOSED.

There has to be so many lawsuits involved in this whole mess, but I personally do not have a lawyer, so what am I to do? Im 16 years old, stuff like this shouldnt be happening to me.

So my advice to you guys... STAY AWAY FROM SURFSPEEDY!

Good day..."

I found lycos awful, I wouldn't say that is as bad as some of the exeriances in this thread but it was just bad. There downtime was high, the site just ran slowely a lot, the site just closed for a few days for no reason and their support was non-exitant!
