What hosting did you start with?

Did you go for your own server directly or did you buy some small hosting package?

I did start with a 30 dollar/month package with quite much space, to finance it I sold a couple of accounts on it to small companies.
Now it has grown to two servers at The Planet.

Free hosting -> Shared Hosting -> Reseller Account -> Dedicated Server -> Reseller Account -> Dedicated Server -> VPS.

I changed so many times, just like my plans.

I currently operate a dedicated server at ThePlanet.com, however you can't knock SurfSpeedy for a backup reseller account.

I've also been hosted with Elixant.com in the past. All excellent services.

I started with Geocities back in 1996. A year later I upgraded to a domain on paid hosting. I finally got a dedicated server in 2001.

I started on a shared host from TheSitePeople. They were pretty good but I had to expand so I switched hosts.

My first real host was asmallorange - and asmallorange is currently still my host. Cheap, affordable prices, yet amazing customer support.

Before that I tried a few free hosts, but never came back, really. Haha.

Just like me

Started off with a small 'post for hosting' account. Then moved on to a shared account, I wanted to be able to make my hosting pay for itself so I then purchased a reseller. My company frew fast, now I have a dedicated server.

I started on a free host to but it was just for fun and not for profit. Just a website for fun. No domain, just a sub-domain of the host.

I originally started hosting my own sites on my home connection. I wasnt recevign that much traffic, so my ISP wasn't really that worried. Then I moved up to a small reseller account for about $30 / month. When that one got to small for me, I got a 2nd reseller account for about $35 a month. With these two reseller accounts totaling around $65 / month, I figured I better start looking for a decent sized server. Additionally, with the recent purchase of one of my sites that had a lot of bandwidth, I immediately moved to a server and have been there for about 4 weeks now. I will keep expanding, and as I continue to need more servers, i will continue to buy more and more Maybe I can be as big as some of the guys on here like Lee But it's just a matter of time in my own mental mind and opinion.

I started with a reseller account that let me run multiple sites for about $30/month. When the uptime and support started to really go downhill, I went straight to a dedicated and manage it myself.

We're just now upgrading to a managed dedicated since I don't have the time anymore.

Geocities in 1996.

Then I was given free hosting and a domain by the very good people at Virtualis (now defunct, they were bought by hosting.com) who I was a reseller for in 1997/98 I believe.

Got a dedicated in 2002 at EV1.
