Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes. OK, forgive me, I'm blonde and female<G>

I need an extremely basic and simple (step 1 do this, step 2 do that) guide to help me set up working locally.

For instance... I have instructions that start "Install to http://localhost/yourfolder/" and I'm even stuck on that!!

I have downloaded and installed xampp, it tells me it's working ok. So now what?

TIA!

What are you trying to install?

Once you get xampp set you and running on your local machine that is all there is to it. If you type localhost into your browser bar and see a page, it is working.

Now to build and use sites you just create a new folder at C:\xampp\htdocs\newfolder

To see your site you type http: localhost/foldername onto your browser. Note I broke that link on purpose with space.

Feel free to ask more if I failed to anser your question.

Also let us know whether you used the installer version or the manual install.

THANK YOU! I had put the folder in the root of my drive - moved it and it now works!

go to localhost (type localhost in your address bar if you are still stuck with this)
it will show you xampp screen, look on your left panel and you will see phpmyadmin, click there and build your database.

[edited] just saw your post saying you did it..

Quick learner for a blonde.

Just joking.

I do suggest you review the security information if you are connected to the net all the time. I also do not leave Apache running all the time. I turn it off when I am not using it.

Sound advice - thank you. I shall now go and look how to do that (and will probably be back here to ask how <G>
