hello,
i am currently working on a webhosting provider list. what hosting provider do you consider as tops of the industry????
perhaps you can help me to add some other providers. the hosting should allow multidomain hosting, offer more than 1gb space, 100 gb traffic and should not cost more than $10 per month.
...
perhaps you can tell me what you think about my list and give me some suggestions:
1)hostgator - 100gb - 1000gb traffic - $9.99
2)dreamhost - 145gb - 1456gb traffic - $9.99
3)crucialwebhost - 250gb - 2500gb traffic - $9.99
4)hostican - 500gb - unmetered traffic - $11.95
5)icdsoft - 20gb - 40gb traffic - $10.00
i am collecting information about your hosting experiences with these hosting companies. or do you think that there should be other providers added to the list??? please post your opinions.
thx for the help
ps
here is a new discount coupon for dreamhost.com ...
i like it very much to pay my hosting bills monthly through paypal. unfortunately you have to pay very high setup fees at the most hosting providers when you choose "pay monthly" (eg at dreamhost you usually have to pay a setup fee of $49.95)
so ...
if you would like to sign up for dreamhost webhosting and prefere the "monthly way", use the promotion code SETUPOFF to save the setup fee of $49.95
wish you all the best!

OK well firstly, are you absolutely sure that people who will view this list actually need such vast quantities of resources? 1GB storage and 100GB of bandwidth is a massive allowance for the average guy. Web developers may need these quantities but the guy on the street probably wouldn't.
Secondly, are you aiming to inform people on quality or just the cheapest provider. I hope it's the first because many of the cheap providers have terrible support and reliability.
You should cut down a bit on what you're aiming to list - either:
1) Keep the price low, but cut the allowances you are demanding (1GB webspace, 100GB traffic)
OR
2) Increase the price that you think visitors would be prepared to pay for such large quantities of resources.
I recommend doing no. 1 as I'm guessing most people looking at your list aren't web developers/designers and don't need such large allowances
Try here for a bit more info too: http://www.webmaster-talk.com/web-ho...osing-web.html

If people all used up to their limit, then Godaddy's servers would probably all go down - it's overselling way too much.

The same goes for any ISP. You're still using one, aren't you?

Of course I use an ISP. However, regarding hosts, blatant overselling like that is simply stupid. My software does not allow me to oversell - I cannot sell the same part of my server twice to customers, but I'm expecting companies like Godaddy do oversell in this way

This is because of the setup with your hosts, they can choose to allow you to oversell

Possibly, but I'd prefer to remain as I am and not oversell - that way, I know when I need to upgrade so I can remain a reputable host rather than a host offering more than he can actually provide

If by ISP you mean the likes of AOL and friends then in many cases (in the UK at least) ISPs are placing explicit fair usage guidelines / limits on their broadband packages; whilst there is contention, it isn't hidden, and the customer is told clearly what they're allowed to use.
I see this trend continuing as broadband gets ever faster, and the amount of bandwidth hungry content online grows.
If you're talking about HSPs, then overselling occurs at the point of the HSP - not at its suppliers - and there are a number of providers that offer realistic resource limits at sensible prices, so it's entirely the customer's choice if they wish to take a risk or not.
Again, as more bandwidth hungry hosting applications are developed, HSPs will tighten up on this point and the overselling policies will slow down and/or disappear.

Thanks Damien
while i do completely hate people who sell rediculously, i do udnerstand why some overselling is completely needed, you will never honestly get all your customers using all their allowence, and if they were coming close, they would upgrade and if you were in the situation of all ur space close to being used you yourself would expend/upgrade.

For budget web hosting provider I'd add Webhostingbuzz.com for the list. They have separate section on their web site for it.

I agree. Quality comes at a price. Support 24-7 * 15$ an hour = alot. + server techs are expensive ect.

People are morons and that is why companies offer to them something they know clients won’t need but it sounds good in ads and because there will be always an idiots who will buy truckload of ice even if they are going to use only one cube.
Any bookkeeper will tell you that 1TB of space will put WHC in $10,000,000 hole if company has 10,000 clients and if do the math, then you’ll find that 1 month of services must be sold for $1,000 in order to survive. But because stupid Joe thinks he is going to get full value for the $$$ he buys into false promos by WHC conscienceless lies.
Hey why not, they spend millions to buy them “reputation” and for the privilege to screw you now.
