Hello people,
Forgive me if I say anything silly. I am a noob. Is it possible to tell whether a site is hosted on a shared or dedicated server other than going to the hoster?...
I am trying to find out were my site is hosted: dedicated, vps or shared. I have access to the CP and on one of the screens it says Virtual server, but I am not sure whether this is a definite sign that the server is shared/VPS.
I'd much appreciate an expert input.
Thank you all...

It's a little difficult to explain...

Your site will ultimately be hosted on a dedicated server - perhaps within a VPS (or not).

I.e. shared hosting will be within a dedicated server (or within a VPS, within a dedicated server).

This makes it a little complicated, and I guess really you want to know whether the company you're paying are the people running the servers - or otherwise if they're a reseller?

That's a slightly different question, and really the dedicated/vps/shared question doesn't come into it too much because the company may be running your service in a VPS (for example) but also run the dedicated server the VPS uses.

If you could provide your domain name and/or (server) IP I'd be happy to do a bit of digging to see what I can figure out about it for you.

Damien, thanks for your reply...

I will tell you the story briefly, so that would be clearer. WE went into agreement with this hoster that they will provide us with a dedicated managed server for the site, the contract actually says that the server is dedicated. Or devs suspect that the server is actually shared as there are some dropouts, slowdowns and other stuff that makes using of the site annoying. So this is actually the question ofitisposible to tell whether the server that the site is hosted on dedicated or anything else. I know that the hoster is a reseller, I just wanted to see what we are using. The domain is summertimemusic.co.nz

Again I apprecate you time and effort in answering my question.

Sorry, I'm missing something, do you have root access which is a must have feature for dedicated to your server? If not, you are on a shared plan.

If you are on the dedi, you have to have a root access that gives you opportunity to do anything you want on the server.
